Embrace Winter at the Quebec Winter Carnival

Instead of escaping winter, I am going to try to embrace it.  My first visit to the Quebec Winter Carnival is a good start.  Where else do visitors come from all over the world to celebrate winter?  When the weather outside is frightful, I will be at the Bonhomme Carnaval where it’s  so delightful.

It is on from January 28th to February 13th, and there is so much to see and do, I am having a hard time making choices before I get there.  There is  snowshoeing, skiing, skating, and visiting or staying in the ice hotel.  I choose to visit – I cannot comprehend sleeping on an ice bed!

For two weeks, the Plains of Abraham morph into an enormous playground. There are shows and lots of outdoor activities, including sliding, an ice house, outdoor movies, zip lines, snow sculptures, a sugar shack, and snow rafting.

I am particularly looking forward to the winter carnival classics like the night parades, snow baths, ice-canoe races, dog races, and the International Snow Sculpture Competition, a perennial favorite that keeps people coming back year after year.  I haven’t even started to think about the food that awaits!  If you are heading to the Winter Carnival this year, let me know – maybe you can give me some tips!
